Rural Transport Theme Group

As a positive reaction to numerous community and business consultations, Castle Morpeth Borough Council set out to address local transport needs. To this end, a comprehensive mapping of current provision and infrastructure was undertaken. In parallel, the Council carried out a wide ranging consultation exercise specifically around transport issues. This culminated in a public event attended by over 100 people.

This work has resulted in transport as being identified as one of the top three priorities of the Castle Morpeth Local Strategic Partnership. The LSP has established a multi –partner theme group to drive forward the agenda. The Group has the following broad objectives:

· To identify and challenge barriers to transport
· To add value and enhance the role of community transport
· To create a joined up approach to transport
· To maximise existing resources
· To foster public and private sector initiatives
· To ensure transport is integrated in the planning frameworks of a wide range of regeneration partners
· To identify and quantify the contribution transport plays in the wider regeneration agenda


Over the last twelve months the group has developed a range of projects, funded by Advancing Castle Morpeth, including Wheels to Work Scheme and a Taxicard Scheme.
