Paying Business Rates

If you have received a Business Rates bill with an amount to pay you will be offered instalments over which to pay. Each instalment will be due on the 1st of the month.

It is very important that instalments are paid on time, if they are not you may be subject to recovery action. Full details of our recovery procedures can be found here.

Castle Morpeth offer a variety of payment methods for Business Rates.

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is by far the easiest way to pay your Business Rates.

The benefits of Direct Debit are

  • No queues at the bank or post office
  • No cheques to write.
  • No postage
  • No need to remember to pay.
  • 10 working days notice of any changes

If you choose to pay by Direct Debit you are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

The Direct Debit Guarantee

·        This Guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme.
The efficiency and security of the Scheme is monitored and protected by your own Bank or Building Society.

·
If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change Castle Morpeth Borough Council will notify you ten working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.

·
If an error is made by Castle Morpeth Borough Council or your Bank or Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society.

To pay by Direct Debit please download, complete and return a Direct Debit mandate. These are available at the One Stop Shop in Morpeth or by ringing First Call.

Mandates must be returned to us, not your bank. If you do not select a payment date then we will assume you wish payments to be taken on the 1st of the month.

Alternatively we now have the facility to set up Direct Debits over the phone. Just call with your bank details.
