The Replacement of the Castle Morpeth District Local Plan
The Government has announced proposals to reform the current Development Plan system.
At the local level, the proposals involve the replacement of Local Plans and Structure Plans by Local Development Frameworks.
Local Development Frameworks will comprise of various documents including a core strategy of policies, a proposals section with a proposals map and area action plans for key areas of change or conservation.
Changes to the process whereby plans are considered and adopted will include the abolition of the two-stage deposit process, it will at the same time take into account some of the Local Development Framework principles including clear expression of core policies, more use of criteria based policies as a framework for development control and links to the Community Strategy for the District.
The Castle Morpeth Urban Capacity Study
The Castle Morpeth Urban Capacity Study was published in March 2002.
As part of the study, the potential contribution to future housing supply in the District from a range of possible sources including both previously developed land and greenfield sites was considered.
The development potential of sites included within the study was assessed in terms of a number of criteria including physical and environmental constraints, accessibility to local facilities, public transport and marketability.
The Castle Morpeth Urban Capacity Study (March 2002) is currently under review.
