If you want to know whether planning permission is needed for non-residential proposals or wish to obtain advice about other proposals, you should use the Pre-Application Enquiry form and forward with the appropriate fee together with any other plans or supporting documents to assist in describing the work.

All advice about a proposal relating specifically to a listed building will be free of charge, otherwise the following charges will apply. For payment options please contact our One Stop Shop on 01670 535000.

£10 a site visit or meeting by   Planning Officer may be undertaken, only if they consider it necessary.

Request for advice and informal officer opinion on proposal for 1-9 dwellings [for change of use or where no number is given, see notes below] £30 for each written communication where no officer site visit or meeting is required plus £60 for each meeting, either on site or at council offices
Request for advice and informal officer opinion on proposal for 10 dwellings or more[ for change of use or where no number is given, see notes below] £50 for each written communication where no officer site visit or meeting is required plus £100 for each meeting, either on site or at council offices
Request for advice and informal officer opinion for any minor* or other non-residential proposal £30 for each written communication where no officer site visit or meeting is required plus £60 for each meeting, either on site or at council offices
Request for advice and informal officer opinion for any major** non-residential proposals £50 for each written communication where no officer site visit or meeting is required plus £200 for each meeting, either on site or at council offices

* minor development. For non-residential development is one where the floor space to be built is under 1000 sq metres, or where the site area is under 1 hectare.

**major development is one where the floor space to be built is 1000 sq metres or more, or where the site area is 1 hectare or more.

FOR MIXED USE SCHEMES the area having the greater proportion of floor space will be used to guide whether residential or non-residential.

For calculation purposes, only the area affected by the development should be included and floor space areas are measured externally.
