Temporary Closure of Morpeth Household Waste Recovery Centre

Morpeth household waste recovery centre (HWRC) will be closed from 7:30pm on Friday 12 September 2008 until week commencing 25 February 2009.

During this time the site will undergo a major redevelopment to enlarge the site, introduce a split level facility to make it easier for people to drop off goods to be recycled, to provide separate public areas and an area for service vehicles.  This means that the site can remain open when skips are being emptied, it will enhance the recycling provision and provide lighting so that the site can stay open for longer periods during the winter months.

There are alternative recycling facilities during the closure for some materials such as glass, textiles, shoes, books and music at the Terrace Car Park adjacent to Morpeth Library.

The nearest alternative HWRC is located at Castle Island Way on North Seaton Industrial Estate. Opening hours are 7 days a week:

  • 8am – 7:30pm during summer months April – October
  • 8am – 6pm in winter months November – March

If you have any queries about recycling facilities in Northumberland, please see the "Further information" section on this page.
