Home care services can provide many different kinds of support to people with an illness or disability. Usually they provide support in the person's own home. If you think that you or someone you know needs home care, you should contact our care management service. There may be a charge for home care, depending on your financial circumstances.
A list of all of the registered home care organisations operating in Northumberland is available on the website of the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). Many of these organisations have contracts with Northumberland Care Trust, and can provide services arranged by care managers. Some of them can also offer help under a private arrangement.
The County Council operates a home care service itself in all parts of the County. The day to day management of this service is provided by Northumberland Care Trust, under an agreement with the Council. The Care Trust also operates a home care service of its own in some parts of the County. In each part of the County, the Care Trust also works with one or more independent organisations. The organisations that care managers generally use in each area of the County are listed below, with links to further information about each of them on the CSCI website.
We are in the process of introducing a new arrangement where people who need support at home will usually first be visited for up to six weeks by our START service, which aims to help people recover the ability to cope independently, wherever possible.
