William Turner Garden, Morpeth
Carlisle Park and Castle Woods

A great day out for all the family...William Turner Garden

In the heart of Morpeth, Carlisle Park is a park you can enjoy everyday.

Watch the seasons unfold as you enjoy a stroll along the River Wansbeck or a walk through the woodlands. Get active at the skate park or at the paddling pool, or simply relax with a picnic and take in a game of bowls.

Discover 1000 years of history at Ha' Hill motte and bailey and Morpeth Castle, then slip back in time in the charming William Turner Garden where all of the plants are 500 year old medicines.

Follow the Hundred Steps to the bandstand to reveal a story for the park, 'The Black Steed of Bells', created by local school children.

William Pym Bird Sculpture

Get close to wildlife in Carlisle Park. Exploring the woodlands will reveal some real treasures - ancient oaks, red squirrels, an orchestra of birdsong and carpets of bluebells and ramsons in the spring. The River Wansbeck is home to our rare white clawed crayfish, look out for 'river dipping' events each summer if you'd like to see them for yourself.

Vibrant flower beds set against a backdrop of herbaceous borders will greet you in the formal gardens. This is where you'll find many exotic tree species too, including Monkey Puzzles and the Maidenhair tree. Take a little time here to sit and stare.
