Northumberland County Council is responsible for maintaining 5200Kms of carriageways and 2200Kms of footways which are all regularly inspected by highway inspectors who are responsible for each part of the County.
Road repair teams are available each working day to carry out minor highway repairs. These include potholes, loose and dangerous paving and blocked drainage channels. More complex repairs will be carried out where possible in line with the overall programme of highway repairs.
Repairs within Morpeth town are carried out by Castle Morpeth Borough Council, who act as agents for the county council. In rural areas of the borough, maintenance is provided directly by Northumberland County Council.
Trunk road maintenance, including the A1, A19 and A69, is carried out by the Highways Agency.
